Barbadian singer Rihanna has copped three major awards at this year’s Billboard Music Awards held in the Las Vegas, United States Monday night.
Eighteen year old Robyn Rihanna Fenty was adjudged the Female Artist of the Year, Female Hot 100 Artist and Pop 100 Artist, beating out top US artistes such as Beyonce and Mary J. Blige.
Blige, however, had tremendous success at the awards winning nine awards for her chart-topping album "The Breakthrough".
On collecting her award, Rihanna, who was one of the two newcomers to walk away with high honours, said: "I really can’t feel my legs. This is phenomenal. That was a really rough category".
The Def Jam artiste, who had had a meteoric rise since the release of her debut "Pon De Replay" in 2005 peaked at number two on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart and the album "Music of the Sun", on which the single hit was released, sold over two million copies worldwide.
Rihanna’s second album "A Girl Like Me" was released in April 2006 and the lead single "SOS" reached number one on the Hot 100 chart and was a chart climber in the US, United Kingdom and Australia.
