Devon Smith - Speaking to CMC Sports after steering Windwards to Carib Beer Series win over CCC

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – West Indies batsman Devon Smith is hoping his wretched form is behind him, as he looks towards the upcoming Home Series against Sri Lanka and Australia.

The left-handed Smith struggled on the recent One-Day International tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa but stroked a brilliant 159 for the Windward Islands against Combined Campuses and Colleges on his return to the Carib Beer Series last weekend.

“It was kind of difficult in South Africa. I didn’t play the Test series [and] unfortunately we lost the series. I know I have to come back to the drawing board and come back fairly well and play cricket,” the 26-year old said.

Smith, who has played 20 Tests and 25 ODIs, experienced a wretched Zimbabwe tour managing just eight runs in four innings. In South Africa, he scored five and then 91 in the final ODI in the two innings he batted.

His stroke-filled century this past weekend, which included 14 fours and two sixes, formed the basis of the Windwards’ 347. CCC were then dismissed for 149 and 248 and Windwards cruised to their target of 51 without losing a wicket.

Smith believes if he is selected for the Home Series, he will be among the runs.

“I think I am in good form. I just have to just go there and continue the way I have started and go on for the rest of the series,” Smith said.
