MUNICH, Germany, Mar 17, CMC – Cuba’s 2004 Olympic heavyweight gold medallist Odlanier Solis stretched his winning streak as a professional to 8-0 when he defeated the experienced veteran Cisse Salif on points at the Zenith Arena this past weekend.

Solis, who defected from Cuba just over a year ago and is based in Germany, was always in command and emerged an easy winner in the eight-round contest.

It was the third time in his short pro career that Solis was being taken the distance as he improves his ring record to 8-0 with five knockouts.

The US-based Salif, originally from Mali, slipped to 22 wins against 10 losses and two draws.

Solis is expected to fight in the USA -- for the first time ever – when he steps into the ring next on May 17 against an opponent to be decided.

Solis, a three-time World Championship gold medallist and Pan American Games champion during his amateur days, and other Cuban Olympic gold medal winners in Athens, Yan Barthelemi and Yuriorkis Gamboa defected while on a training stint in Venezuela for the 2007 Pan American Games.

All three boxers are unbeaten so far as professionals.
