PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s multiple world light middleweight boxing champion Jizelle Salandy puts her numerous belts on the line Saturday night when she tackles Poland’s champion Karolina Lukasik.

Both boxers hold championship titles and will be taking unbeaten records into the ring at the Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence.

Salandy has the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Women’s Boxing Federation (IWBF) and Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) women’s titles, and Lukasic holds the Women’s International Boxing Federation (WIBF) and Global Boxing Union (GBU) crowns.

Salandy has a ring record of 15-0 with six knockouts, and Lukasik is 9-0 with one of her victories coming inside the distance.

At over six feet tall, the 26-year-old Lukasic carries a huge height and reach advantage into the contest, but Salandy’s trainer Hector Roca believes the 21-year-old Trinidad and Tobago pugilist will nullify the European’s physical advantages.

“We know that she is a tall and imposing individual but I believe that will make life easier for Jizelle because her (Lukasik) style is readable,” Roca told reporters.

“Jizelle is too quick, too pretty and has all the moves in the books. She is going to mesmerise Lukasik with her foot and hand speed,” Roca added.

Lukasic’s trainer Connie Mittermeier spoke confidently this week and deflected suggestions that Salandy has superior tactical skills.

“Karolina is an excellent technician, who boxes with her head,” Mittermeier said.

At Friday’s weigh-in, Lukasic came in at 153-1/2 pounds and Salandy an even 150 pounds.

Salandy will pick up a decent purse of US$40,000 and Lukasik is guaranteed US$25,000.

Unbeaten Barbadians Shawn Cox and Miguel Antoine are also on the card against Guyanese opponents.

Cox tackles Leon Gilkes in a cruiserweight six-rounder, and Antoine faces Leon Dover in a light welterweight contest, also over six rounds.

In other undercard bouts, Kevin Placide will seek revenge when he comes up against Guyana’s Denny Dalton in a super welterweight contest, and light heavyweight Shawn Corbin meets Thomas Orosco.
