Carl Brown (File Photo) - Hoping to stun Bermuda again

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands, CMC – Carl Brown, the Jamaican head coach of the Cayman Islands, will be hoping to deliver a shock to Bermuda when the two teams clash in a deciding CONCACAF World Cup football qualifier on Sunday.

The Cayman Islands will be at home at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex and after earning a surprise 1-1 draw in the first-leg in Bermuda last month, Brown wants to finish the job and eliminate the more highly regarded Bermuda.

Brown is also using comments by former English pro and Bermuda international Shaun Goater – after the draw in Hamilton eight weeks ago – that the Cayman Islands were “no better than a pub team” to help inspire his side.

"I keep feeding to them what people think of them and it's something that we have to face across the Caribbean," Brown told reporters.

Brown concedes that Goater’s comments may have stemmed from Bermuda showing definitely more quality in their game than the Cayman Islands did in the first leg, but the former Jamaica head coach and international player is not ruling out another favourable result for his team.

“I don't believe that we can kill him (for his comments), but it's for us to prove him wrong. And if they come short of what they're capable of doing they will be in for a big surprise,” Brown added.

The Cayman Islands are ranked 183rd in the world and 19th in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), significantly lower that Bermuda, who are 146th in the world and ninth in the CFU.

Having drawn 1–1 in the first leg, Cayman only need a 0–0 draw to go through.

A 1-1 draw would send the tie into extra-time and then if the game was all even, penalties would decide the outcome.

A 2-2 or 3-3 draw would mean Bermuda would advance on away goals.

The winner of the tie will advance to face Jamaica in the next stage of CONCACAF qualifying.

In another qualifier on Sunday, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Bahamas meet again in Nassau where they drew 1-1 in the first leg on Wednesday.

The winner of that tie will advance to face Trinidad and Tobago in the second stage of CONCACAF qualifying in June.
