Warner warns scalpers to stay away from England clash

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Football mogul Jack Warner has warned against illegal tickets sales, as momentum continues to build towards the national team’s historic clash with England here Sunday night.

Warner, a FIFA vice-president who is special advisor to the local federation, assured fans who could not get tickets, that the match would be televised locally.

“Even for those who don’t have a ticket, I want to tell them, don’t do the illegal stuff, don’t give the scalpers good business and look out for the counterfeit tickets,” said Warner, also the CONCACAF president.

“But for those who were not lucky to get the ticket we have ensured that you can see all the action on national television (NCC Channel Four).”

The match against England, scheduled for the Hasely Crawford Stadium, has attracted huge attention and ticket sales have been reported to be overwhelming.

England arrived on Thursday for the meeting fresh from a 2-0 drubbing of the United States at Wembley on Wednesday night.

The Fabio Capello-coached squad is missing several of the big stars who saw playing time against the US, with seven of the nine players who participated in the Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea in Moscow two weeks ago, rested for the Caribbean clash.

As a result, there is no Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard or John Terry but Warner said he believed England would still be a powerful force.

“I think that the fact that they are here in the flesh now means that we have a great game to look forward to and I want to wish the entire country an enjoyable time on Sunday,” he said.

“The coach Fabio looks to be in good spirits and he has promised us a very good game on Sunday and so have our coach (Francisco Maturana) has also promised a competitive showing from his boys. I think we will be in for a grand show.”
