DUBROVNIK, Croatia, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic bronze medallist George Bovell resumed his preparations for next month’s Beijing Olympic Games in China with a gold and silver medal swim at the Croatian Open Championships this past weekend.
On Friday in the men’s 50 metres freestyle, the Florida-based Bovell won in 22.17 seconds well ahead of his Race Club team-mate and Croatian Duje Draganja, who took second in 22.47.
Third was Bruno Barbic in 22.85 seconds.
In the 100-metre freestyle, Serbia's Milorad Cavic touched the wall first in 49.14 seconds while Bovell was second in 50.16.
The meet ended in Dubrovnik on Saturday.
Bovell, who turns 25 years old on Friday, will swim both the 50 and 100-metre freestyle events in Beijing after quitting his Olympic medal winning 200 metres Individual Medley event due to injury.
His Olympic medal in Athens four years ago was the first ever CARICOM swimming medal in Olympic Games history.
Bovell’s next Olympic warm-up assignment is in Slovenia this weekend.
