Caribbean Tales and the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) present a half-day
workshop for Independent Producers and Broadcasters on Friday morning,
February 26, 2010 at the Savannah Hotel, St Michael, Barbados.
The purpose of the workshop is to develop an ongoing dialogue between the
film producers community and the broadcast community, in order to chart new
directions for co-operation between the two that will lead to increasing the
exposure of Caribbean audio visual content within the region and beyond.
The first session will address the challenge of balancing the demand and
supply of Caribbean films and other audio visual material, which relates to
the challenges within the production and broadcasting environment, such as
the economics of productions and their availability for broadcasting and the
collaboration on promotion and distribution opportunities.
The second session speaks to the legislative framework for enabling
increasing content output, whereby critical issues regarding the regulatory
framework for film industry, incentives and other financing solutions for
productions will be the subject of a round table discussion of the leading
independent producers and the major television broadcasters of the region.
Mr Patrick Cozier, Secretary General of the CBU said: "In harnessing the
energies of our creative sector specifically the film and audiovisual
sector, it is necessary form a mature and progressive dialogue between the
producers and the broadcasting communities in the region.
"If we can define a formula that allows the content strength of the
producers to be effectively married with the distribution strength of the
producers, we then have wonderful opportunity for advancing and promoting
Caribbean culture through audio visual productions."
The workshop is open to all members of CANA, CBU, as well as other
professionals of the audio/visual industry are encouraged to take part in
this workshop for which access will be free of charge.
